Ina Garten Famous Lemon Cake!

You can make your own frosting or you can use our version since it is a little thinner. Make sure to only use real lemons and stay clear of that artificial crap!

Let's Get Started…

Ingredients To Gather:

  • 1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 extra-large eggs
  • 1/3 cup grated lemon zest
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

The Step By Step Directions To Follow:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Grease and flour 2 (8 1/2 by 4 1/4 by 2 1/2-inch) loaf pans.
  3. Cream the butter and 2 cups granulated sugar.
  4. Add the eggs.
  5. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  6. In another bowl, combine 1/4 cup lemon juice, the buttermilk, and vanilla.
  7. Add the flour and buttermilk mixtures alternately to the batter.
  8. Beginning and ending with the flour.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  10. Combine the confectioners' sugar and the lemon juice in a bowl, mixing with a wire whisk until smooth.
  11. Pour over the tops of the cakes and allow the glaze to drizzle down the sides.
